Happiness, Appreciation And All Things Cliché

Recently I’ve wanted to do a post on the ever-cliché theme “appreciation,” and it’s reoccurring presence in my life, but I didn’t know how or where to start.

While brainstorming this idea, I was listening to “Falling,” by Haim, and if you didn’t know, I’m completely OBSESSED with music. So I smile while listening because I have a flashback to 10 minutes prior when I was jumping and dancing in the shower while it played on my speakers.

And I sit and think, “Wow, I felt like I little kid when I did that.” When I was younger I liked to listen to music as if each song was a soundtrack to my life. I would wake up, play Michael Jackson and dance around while I got ready, simply because it felt good.

Anyways, I’m sitting at my desk reflecting on my shower scene and my childhood memories, grasping the fact that it’s these little moments that are irreplaceable. These are the memories that bring my soul to life.

Then I rewind back to around 2:30 today, where I was standing in 104-degree heat on the sidewalk with two little girls for their first-ever lemonade stand. We had the cutest little stand and paper signs, and as cars passed with their windows up, clearly unable to hear the girls, the two screamed at the top of their lungs, “LEMONADE FOR 50 CENTS!” and they jumped up and down with the biggest smiles I have ever seen.

To my surprise, it was an extremely successful lemonade stand, and the memory is engrained in my brain. I was so happy afterward, despite my flowing sweat.

So I guess I’m sitting here right now realizing… WOW. Life is so beautiful. I think maybe we don’t always see it. It’s easy to miss.

Today it happened to be the glowing innocence of these girls and the happiness a simple lemonade stand brought them that made me realize.

I could go on for 20 more paragraphs listing things I’m grateful for, but I don’t want to preach, and I don’t want you to feel like I’m pressuring you to be thankful.

Honestly, for a period of my life, I wasn’t, and I think I needed that time to not be thankful. I had to explore and discover on my own what exactly there was to appreciate.

If you’re at a place in your life where you can find joy and beauty in simple things, congratulations. If not, be patient and try your best to be open. In time, it will come to you. Beauty and appreciation.

GET PUMPED FRIENDS. It’s fabulous. Life is fabulous.

  1. I really enjoyed this piece. I think happiness is choosing to be as a state of being. Some think happiness is only possible if something good happens to you or you are doing “something” that brings them happiness. Those are fleeting. Happiness is a choice. I try seeing each day as if I were showing it to a new friend or a small child for the first time. Each day is fesh and new with endless possibilities. This piece added to my happiness. Thanks you
